Ribnica na Pohorju
Ribnica na Pohorju is a small clustered settlement on the northern slopes of Pohorje. In Roman times, a road ran through Ribnica connecting Slovenske Konjice with the Drava Valley. Surrounded by vast, dark Pohorje forests, the locals have long been engaged in forestry, sawmilling, and livestock farming.
The past was also marked by glassmaking and stonemasonry. Today, Ribnica is an idyllic climatic tourist destination with an apartment village, ski slopes, and tourist farms. It is also a pleasant starting point for mountain biking and hiking trails towards the Ribnica Hut and Jezerski Vrh.
With its location below the peak of Pohorje and its fresh, clean air, it attracts visitors seeking peace and walks in nature. At the top, the Ribnica Lake awaits, surrounded by dwarf pines, offering a safe haven and tranquillity. Here, visitors discover natural beauty, the importance of the forest, as well as the history and life of this part of Pohorje.
In Josipdol, you can visit the Museum of Stonemasonry, Glassmaking, and Forestry, as well as one of the first forest educational trails – Kapelvald – a true treasure trove of various tree species. And if you head to Orlica, you will find the Sgerm Spruce, at 62 metres the tallest in Central Europe.
