The hammer collection on display on the ground
floor of the Radlje ob Dravi Manor is only a small part of the extensive
collection of 2,500 objects and over 3,400 books accumulated by Ferdinand
Leitinger, an amateur collector from Radlje ob Dravi.
Ferdinand Leitinger accumulated 210 different
hammers, ranging from blacksmiths' hammers, stone cutting hammers, masonry
hammers, shoemakers' hammers, scythe-blade sharpening hammers, hammers for
glass and sledge-hammers to all-purpose hammers and other specialised hammers.
The hammer display is supplemented by presenting
the phenomenon and historic development of hammers, as well as the mythological
relevance of blacksmiths as being the first craftsmen to use a hammer.
