THE OSSUARY OF ST. MICHAEL IN LIBELIČE

The ossuary of St. Michael in Libeliče is located next to St. Martin's Church, and is of great importance on the Slovenian territory because the majority of such buildings have been ruined.

The ossuary of a Romanesque ground plan dates back to the time of the parish's origins, which is the first half of the 12th century.

The round ossuary, or the chapel of bones, is divided into the upper and the lower part. The upper part was designed as a chapel, with an altar dedicated to Michael the Archangel, the protector of the dead. Under the chapel is an arched cellar, still storing its original items: bones.
