Following the example of sculpture symposiums of the second half of the 20th century, which were novelties at the time, four work sites under the common title of Forma Viva (Living Form) resulted from it. These were Kostanjevica na Krki, Seča near Portorož, Ravne na Koroškem, and Maribor. Their common goal was to create an internationally-oriented sculpture collection based on local traditional sculpture materials.

In Ravne na Koroškem, the foundation for the seven sculpture symposiums called Forma Viva in Steel was represented by the iron-making industry, originating from over a 300 year-old tradition of ironworks.

Forma Viva is the most important modern open-air sculpture collection in Koroška. It comprises 28 sculptures, set in the urban environment of Ravne na Koroškem, Prevalje, Mežica, and Črna na Koroškem, and can be visited at any time.
