A TRIBUTE TO THE DIVINE MANES – A COLLECTION OF ROMAN STONE MONUMENTS

As part of the "World. Europe. We." permanent exhibition, a renovated collection of Roman stone monuments is on display at the Koroška Regional Museum in Slovenj Gradec. The exhibition portrays the research of Roman stone monuments in Koroška. The Mislinja Valley, as it was in the Roman times, is also depicted, and the most important centres of Roman culture in the area are presented. These include the Colationa postal station and settlement in Stari Trg near Slovenj Gradec, as well as the countryside villas in Dovže and in Završe.

The imagery and the inscriptions on the monuments of the "A Tribute to the divine Manes" exhibition take you through the exciting life of Roman beliefs, the cult of the dead, and their understanding of the afterlife.

Special attention has been paid to the pedagogical and andragogical educational programme. For this purpose, replicas of a funerary bed and a centurion costume have been created. Visitors can acquaint themselves with the Roman measurement system and have a closer look at the techniques and tools used for marble carving and writing the Roman cursive.
