Get to know the steel town and the so called mother steel factory

With the help of the steel will you will dive deep into the background stories of Ravne na Koroškem and see how the town and its people have changed throughout time. The highlight will most definitely be the tasty “factory lunch”, which represented an important part of the work day.

Detailed description of the tour:

The tour begins at the entrance of the old part of Ravne steel factory, called “Štauharija”, which today hosts a part of the Koroška regional museum.

The local tour guide will accompany you into the world of Ravne steel factory. The tour will get even more interesting with the use of modern technologies, such as virtual reality glasses and object recognition table.

Next, you will visit the blacksmith's workshop, where a young blacksmith will present you the processes of iron transformation and the blacksmith's craft. Each visitor will also get the chance to hit the blacksmith's stamp in a beer bottle opener and take it home as a memory of the experience.

After the tour in the factory you will take an idyllic stroll towards restaurant Lečnik. Along the way you will see the first four Forma viva sculptures which are an important part of Ravne's heritage. The guide will explain to you the history of Forma vivas in Ravne and afterwards you will be served a tasty “factory lunch”. You will also get to know that for the workers in Ravne’s steel factory, lunch was not only a meal, but it was considered as a ritual and it often involved playing cards, etc.

After the beverage you will make a short ascent to Čečovje, where you will get to know other interesting facts about Forma vivas and from where you will have a nice view overlooking the steel factory and block of flats where workers live. Along the way you will also get the chance to meet the locals and find out more about their everyday life. This approach of the tour allows us to take a glimpse into the background of our destination.

The tour ends at the Ravne castle café Eleonora, a symbol of bourgeoisie and spending free time. Along this tour you will get to know how the ironworking started with counts Thurn, how it was transformed into a heavy industry, accompanied by ironsmith craft and you will also be able to observe the art of the Forma vivas and treat yourself at the end in Eleonora, Ravne's castle café.
