The Birth House of Hugo Wolf with its permanent exhibition held in a historical living space from the late 19th century presents the life and work of the famous composer through all periods of his active, extravagant and also tragic life, with special emphasis on his childhood in Slovenj Gradec. Hugo Wolf, a genius master of late Romantic Period lieder, was special due to his expressive intensity which imbues his music. He played the piano already in the pre-school period and was regarded a musical wunderkind with a perfect musical ear. Hugo Wolf was born on 13 March 1860 to Philipp Wolf and Katherine, née Nussbaumer. The international information and documentation centre with the central archive on Wolf also operates in the birth house.
