Time stops in countryside

Do you need an escape from the everyday hustle and bustle? The Koroška countryside is a treasury of culture and the right address for relaxation. Experience the traditions closely connected with nature and farm life. Self-sufficient farm estates or celki, granaries, mill houses, and sawmills are only some of the traditional farming architectures that can be found in this area, bringing the memory of work and life from the olden days closer to us today. Experience an unforgettable retreat on tourist farms, where you will find peace, authenticity, homeliness and the traditional Koroška cuisine. Listen to the stories and the wisdom of the locals, and try out some of the forgotten chores.

Relaxing vacation on a farm

Local farms invite you to spend a somewhat different typical day. Experience the authentic nature and farm chores. You can test yourself in hay storage, grass cutting, feeding the animals, picking up fruit in the garden or just enjoy the simple and natural environment, cycle around the village or explore the nearby peaks. The locals preserved many folk dances, national or folk songs, and customs, which they will be happy to show and teach you.

Discover secluded farms

Do you know what celki are? They are farmhouses and their facilities that are built tightly connected and have crested roofs covered in shingles, making them appear as small hamlets. Most of them in Slovenia are found in the Koroška region.

Many generations enriched the life on these secluded farms with their diligence, resourcefulness and folk architectural creativity due to the seclusion and the scarcity of the mountain nature. Wooden granaries, decorative elements on the wooden buildings, facilities for storing grain, flour and meat, black kitchen and smaller forges are unique examples of countryside architecture. Besides the traditional forms of entertainment, you can also find joy in learning about forgotten traditions, such as steljaraja, jajčarija, gnojvoža and others. And, in the meantime, the locals will be happy to share the stories of perkmandeljci, ajdi, škopnek, the forest man, žal žene or divja jaga.

Try the authentic koroška košta

Indulge in the traditional and natural. The farms are famous for their excellent cuisine, Koroška must (apple cider) and unique views. Well, you will still be hungry after the latter, but they will definitely enrich your stay at the farm. Local meat, milk, vegetables and fruit sure smell different here – even more so because time here runs backwards.

Mountain bike - trails

The labyrinth of forest roads and cart tracks leads you up and down the mountain, into the valleys and between them. Among the forests and meadows with their wonderful views there are regulated paths intended for extreme or more recreational cycling. They are best tackled with “all-mountain” or “enduro” bikes.

Drava cycling route

Drava Cycling Route is considered as one of the most beautiful cycling routes in Europe due to its natural splendours and cultural diversity. The 510-km route stretches from the source of the Drava River in Toblach, Italy, crosses Austria to Slovenia and runs further on to Croatia where it terminates at the confluence of the Mura and Drava Rivers next to Legrad.
