Koroška Regional Museum, Ravne na Koroškem Museum

The tradition of ironmongery and working class interweaves with depictions of rural life and provides an insight into important achievements of the past.

Visit the Radlje Manor and learn about the life and work of Franjo Pahernik, a pioneer of environment-friendly forestry in Slovenia. You can also enter the world of children's imagination by visiting the exhibition of children’s games and toys.

The Ironmaking Museum located in the old ironworks comprehensively presents the history of ironmaking in Koroška and emphasises an important role of the Meža Valley in the development of this industry. The exhibition displays numerous historical machines and devices that tell about technical and technological achievements of many generations of ironworkers. The oldest items are repač (a water-driven hammer) and pudlovka (an iron puddling furnace). A lapidarium of Roman monuments and an ethnological collection can be found at the Ravne castle. The collection presents the life and work of rural people. The reconstruction of a wooden smokehouse, a predecessor of a black kitchen, is exhibited as a central element and shows a former living culture in the east-Alpine area. In addition to the elements of typical architectural heritage, also other items related to work and festive customs of the rural people are exhibited. You can learn about the famous writer from Koroška, Lovro Kuhar – Prežihov Voranc (1893–1950) through the living environment of his childhood and visit the Prežihova Bajta house which is located above Kotlje and offers a beautiful view of Mount Uršlja Gora and the Hotulja Valley, which are described in many of his works.
