The region, surrounded by Kozjak in the north and Pohorje in the south, has been populated since prehistoric times. On its path from the spring to the river mouth, the Drava River connects four countries and offers a special cycling adventure by its riverbed.

Drava is a 725 km long river; the Danube River affluent, which connects countries and cultures from the Alps to the Pannonian plains in Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary and Serbia. The original current was tamed in the previous century by building 22 dams for the needs of hydroelectric power plants in Austria, Slovenia and Croatia. Despite this, the natural habitats with unique communities of plants and animals and some endemic species were preserved.
