Dravograd

Dravograd is located at the crossroads of three valleys: Mežica, Mislinja and upper Drava valley. The town evolved from the market and fair centre, underneath the former castle with the former mitnica facility and so the city became a safe haven for transport on the Drava River, and later a larger railway crossing that grew into a modern settlement, divided by the Drava River to the left and right embankment. The municipality is intertwined with historical traces. The most prominent are the timber rafters, who nowadays transport tourists on the Drava River, the famous St. Vitus Church in Dravograd, the outstanding ossuary in Libeliče, the museum collection on Nazi violence in Dravograd, and the Bukovje mansion with an exhibition on the 1991 battles in the Koroška region. The areas of Košenjak–Velka and Lake Dravograd are the most naturally interesting parts of the Dravograd landscape.
